S. Shyam Sundar

S. Shyam Sundar (PhD, Stanford University) is a pioneering researcher who studies the social and psychological effects of a variety of digital media, ranging from websites and social media to mobile phones, robotics and internet of things. His research has explored the role of virtual reality and virtual environments in shaping the credibility and persuasiveness of media content, using his original theoretical frameworks such as Modality-Agency-Interactivity-Navigability (MAIN) Model and Theory of Interactive Media Effects (TIME). His research is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), among others. He is editor of the first-ever Handbook of the Psychology of Communication Technology (Wiley-Blackwell, 2015) and has served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, 2013-2017.
